
World Metrology Day 2023, Putrajaya, Malaysia
In conjunction with World Metrology Day celebrated on 20th May 2023, with the global theme this year “Support the Global Food System”, Malaysia celebrated the event at IOI City Mall, Putrajaya with invitation from De Metrology Sdn. Bhd. PPATSM, NMIM, KPDN were are also invited to the event to witness the achievement of record setting of “Most Instruments Verification in a Day” under the Malaysia Books of Records achived by De Metrology Sdn. Bhd. on 16th May 2023 in its 34 branches nationwide.

The event was officially launched by YB Datuk Seri Salahhudin Bin Ayub as the country’s Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). The Minister acknowledged the importance of the accuracy of weighing instruments in the country in all businessess and explained that due to major focus of the country’s Cost of Living issues since he became the Minister six months ago, he did not spend enough time in dealing with metrology related matters, however the Minister promised that more attentions will be put on the importance of metrology system in the country, especially in weights and measures.

YB Datuk Seri Salahhudin Bin Ayub also reported that international metrology system recognised that electronic weighing products achieve higher accuracy as compared to mechanical springs scale (Alat Timbang Neraca, ATN). The Minister thus advised that Malaysia should not overlook the importance of protecting the consumers and end users’ right to ensure the accountability of weighing instruments used especially in commercial trading purposes.
The Minister in his speech addressed the Ministry’s current planning to consider full implementation of digital / electronic weighing products with minimum of 1 year grace period, however the process will involve thorough discussion and holistic engagement session with all parties including PPATSM before decisions are made.


PPATSM since its inception in 2017 always showed strong collaboration with KPDN in the initiatives of implementing new ruling and regulation. The association is represented by KPDN-licensed companies to sell and repair weights and measures products, therefore, PPATSM is taking proactive measures to engage and consult all its members and industry players. KPDN’s enforcement department have also agreed to hold discussion with PPATSM, NMIM and relevant authorities to have future communications towards such implementation.

PPATSM’s committees were presence at the event with a booth space displaying awareness, education and main functions of PPATSM. Some of the members and industry players also paid visit to the event to show support of strong collaboration of PPATSM with DMSB, KPDN and NMIM.
