Signing Event of “Verification & Re-verification of Weighing Instruments” collaboration between PPATSM and National Verification Bodies
On September 12, 2023, a significant development occurred in the field of weighing instrument standards. Chin Tai Hin, the Chairman of PPATSM (Persatuan Pembaik Alat Timbang dan Sukat Malaysia), announced that the association had reached an agreement with both SDLs (De Metrology Sdn. Bhd. and Metrology Corporation Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.) to officiate an A3 poster to be displayed on all branches nationwide. This poster, initiated by PPATSM, centers on the “Garis Panduan Penentusahan and Penentusahan Semula Alat Timbang Kerjasama PPATSM & SDL.”
This initiative marks a cooperative endeavor between the two SDLs to standardize and provide clear guidelines for the verification and re-verification of weighing instruments. Designed as an easy reference, the poster will benefit over 70 SDL branches across Malaysia, offering clarity and consistency in processes and requirements.
Recognizing the importance of this collaborative effort, Tuan Mohd Suffian Bin Mohd Abass from Unit Metrology Sah of KPDN in Putrajaya, provided comments on the initiative. He emphasized that while the “Garis Panduan” plays a pivotal role in enhancing standards and clarity, it must align with current legal statutes. “All parties involved need to ensure that the ‘Garis Panduan’ does not conflict with or override the rules and regulations stipulated under the current enforcement and acts,” asserted Tuan Suffian.
